LET'S RECYCLE
Find out how to recycle your waste!
What is waste?
Waste is anything that we throw away or get rid of because we don't need it anymore. It can be things like food scraps, old toys, or broken items.
Where does it go?
When we throw something away, it usually goes to a landfill, which is like a big hole in the ground or dirt-pile. But sometimes waste can be harmful to the environment, so it's important to be careful about what we throw away.
Why recycle?
We can help reduce waste by recycling, which means turning old things into new things, and by using less and conserving resources.
Let's save the planet
When we reduce waste, we help protect the environment and make the world a better place for animals and human beings.
How to recycle
The Recycle Bin
RECYCLING
When we recycle, we take things that we no longer need and turn them into something new. Items that can be recycled;
-
Paper: Office paper, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, paper bags, and cardboard boxes.
-
Plastic: Plastic bottles, jugs and jars.
-
Glass: Clear, green, and brown glass bottles and jars.
-
Metal: Aluminum cans, steel cans, tin cans, empty aerosol cans, and clean aluminum foil.
-
Cartons: Milk cartons, juice boxes, soup cartons, and other food and beverage cartons.
General Waste Bin

Paper Waste
Paper is one of the most commonly recycled materials, paper that can be recycled:
-
Office paper: White and colored printer paper, notebook paper, memo pads, and envelopes
-
Newspapers and magazines
-
Packaging: Cereal boxes, shoe boxes, and other paperboard boxes.
-
Cardboard: Cardboard boxes, corrugated boxes, and packing boxes.

Junk mail and flyers
-
Paper bags: Grocery bags, shopping bags, and other paper bags.
Remember, paper products that are contaminated with food, grease, or other substances cannot be recycled, as they can contaminate the entire batch of recycled paper.
Plastic Waste
Plastic waste is bad for the environment as it takes hundreds of years to decompose (breakdown) unlike organic waste which takes weeks or months! To help, you can recycle plastic :
-
Plastic bottles
-
Some plastic food packaging
-
Milk bottles
-
Yoghurt container
But remember to check the label because some plastic needs to be recycled at a special place.
Recycling Tips
Remember to check your local recycling guidelines, as some areas may have specific rules about what can and cannot be recycled. Some bins are even in a different colour to what is shown above.
Additionally, it's important to rinse out containers before placing them in the recycling bin to avoid contamination.
