Sustainability key words described in detail
Sustainability
Sustainability is all about taking care of our planet so that it can continue for people in the future. It means using resources (such as; earth, wood, water and food) wisely and not wasting them so that we can keep the Earth healthy and beautiful.
Global warming
Global warming is when the Earth's temperature gets hotter over time. This happens because of something called greenhouse gases. These gases trap heat from the sun in the Earth's atmosphere, making it warmer.
Imagine being in a car on a sunny day with the windows rolled up. The car gets really hot because the sun's heat can't escape through the windows. The same thing is happening to our planet.
Greenhouse gases
Greenhouse gases is like a blanket that covers the Earth to keep it warm. Just like a blanket that keeps you warm on a cold night, keeping the Earth warm by trapping heat from the sun.
Some examples of greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor. These gases are important because without them, the Earth would be too cold for us to live on.
However, when we produce too much of these gases by burning coal, oil, and gas, the blanket traps too much heat and makes the Earth too warm.
CARBON FOOTPRINT
Carbon dioxide is a gas that is produced when people and animals breathe, which is great the world needs this gas BUT when humans do a lot of activities like driving, cutting down trees and burning wood and earth elements. Too much carbon dioxide in the air is not good because it can make the Earth warmer, which we call climate change.
Climate Change
Climate happens when the air and oceans around the Earth get warmer because of people do such as burning resources, like coal and gas, to make energy for things like electricity and cars. But when we burn these fuels, it releases the gas, carbon dioxide into the air which traps heat from the sun and makes the Earth's temperature go up.
When the Earth's temperature goes up, it can cause lots of problems. Ice at the North and South Poles melts, which can cause extreme weather like hurricanes and heatwaves.
